Global Warming Solutions Act Signed into law July 2008
Requires Massachusetts to develop progams, policies, and regulations to ensure a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to at least 10% below 1990 levels by 2020.  The 2020 reduction may be increased by up to 25% below 1990 after administrative hearings.

Green Communities Act
– Signed into law January 2008
Increases opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable generation, aligns Massachusetts building code with the International Energy Conservation Code, and provides new programs for municipal clean energy development.

The Green Jobs Act
– signed into law August 2008
Funds clean energy educational opportunities, allows for the creation of a Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Institute at a state college, and an Entrepreneurial Followship program to assist business developers entering the clean energy field.

Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI)
– signed into law in 2007
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is the first mandatory, market-based effort in the United States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ten Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states will cap and then reduce CO2 emissions from the power sector 10% by 2018. States will sell emission allowances through auctions and invest proceeds in consumer benefits: energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other clean energy technologies. RGGI will spur innovation in the clean energy economy and create green jobs in each state. The first auction was held in October, 2008 and generated $13 million for Massachusetts energy efficiency projects.
