Climate Adaptation refers to preparing to deal with the effects of Climate Change that are already happening such as an increase in severe storms, draught, floods, new insects and diseases that are moving into our area, and other things that we may not yet understand. Some of these things may overlap with Climate Mitigation, which refers to reducing such things as greenhouse gas emissions, which are causing Climate Change.

In 2011, Massachusetts published an excellent study on Climate Adaptation. The Massachusetts Climate Change Adaptation Report was mandated by in 2008 by the MA Global Warming Solutions Act. Click here for PDF of the report.

In Greenfield, in 2012, a group of concerned citizens called Citizens for Emergency Preparednessinitiated discussions with Greenfield’s Emergency Response team, primarily around the need for response to a nuclear accident. They can be reached by calling 413-772-3747.
