Are you looking for a way to beat the heat, and lower your utility bills? Register today for the Monday July 30, 4:30 PM tour of Zero-Energy homes at the Green River Commons in Greenfield. This is the second in a series of free tours offered by Greening Greenfield of new homes that are comfortable year-round, and have annual utility bills in the hundreds, not thousands.
“There is much to be learned from these new condos that can be applied to existing homes,” said Nancy Hazard of Greening Greenfield. “There will be people on-hand that can answer both technical and financial questions about purchasing one of these new Green River Commons condominiums or about achieving zero net energy for your home.”
These new affordable and market-rate homes were built by Wright Builders through a unique partnership with the Town of Greenfield. Greenfield donated the land to make the project possible, and chose Wright Builders because of their long-time commitment to building quality sustainable homes.
“It was an honor to be chosen to build these seven affordable and moderate cost net-zero-ready homes in Greenfield,” said Jonathan Wright, co-principal of Wright Builders. “Greenfield’s community goals matched with our skills and 45-years of experience and commitment to build quality homes that are comfortable, heathy, safe, and affordable to live in, and that also have the potential of being fossil fuel free.”
Freedom Credit Union, who is providing financing for buyers of the Green River Commons Condo, and realtor, Wanda Mooney of Coldwell Banker Upton-Massamont Realtors, will be on hand with experienced support, qualifications review, and advice from the Greenfield Town Offices.
During the 60-minute Tour, people will have an opportunity to talk with the builders about what they did to achieve their low energy use goals, and how some of these systems can be installed or added to existing homes. Staff from the UMASSFive College Federal Credit Union and PV Squared Solar will also be on hand to talk about the amazing financing being offered in Massachusetts to everyone for solar systems. Green River Commons buyers will have a special opportunity to own their own efficient and long lived SunPower solar systems through special financing provided through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
Greening Greenfield, an and active and dynamic group of residents working toward sustainability, are offering these tours to support a resolution passed by the Town Council in June that makes a commitment to move toward 100% renewable energy and a fossil-fuel-free future. The homes at the Green River Common demonstrate that this goal is possible, and Greening Greenfield hopes the tour will inspire people to make changes to the homes they live in, or build new zero-energy homes.
