Getting to Know Our Local Ferns at Mount Toby Reservation

ggec-logo-60Sat, August 18, 9:00am-1:00pm.

Join Naturalist Ted Watt for an exploration of a variety of ferns found in the local forests, woods, roadsides and rock ledges of Mt. Toby.  We’ll see over twenty species and learn about their habitats and adaptations.   Ted will explain some simple ways of looking at ferns to be able to distinguish the various species.  A list of species we will encounter will be provided, with lots of time for practice at telling them apart.  No previous knowledge needed.  Bring your curiosity and your observation skills and plan to have fun exploring!

Co-Sponsored by Hitchcock Center for the Environment and Greening Greenfield, this free walk is mostly easy walking with uneven ground on occasion.  However, the end of the walk (optional) is along a dry stream bed with downed logs and rocks and some mud!  It is geared to adults and children over 10 years.

Limited to 15 participants.  All should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for biting insects and ticks. Heavy rain cancels.
