Steve Jackson of Native Plant Trust/Nasami Farm, will talk at this free event!
Greening Greenfield’s Planting for Pollinators! Let’s Build Biodiversity and Beauty is continuing its campaign to inspire people to plant native flowers, trees and shrubs while building habitats for insects, birds and other wildlife that address the biodiversity and climate crisis with a presentation on the fall planting of native trees and shrubs.
On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, Steve Jackson, horticulturist and plant coordinator for Nasami Farm in Whately, will be giving a free talk at the First Congregational Church, 43 Silver St in Greenfield at 6:30pm. Questions will be encouraged, and refreshments will be served.
Steve Jackson is a graduate of the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, where he also earned a landscape design certificate. He is a practicing designer and horticulturist who has worked at public gardens and private estates throughout the Northeast.
“Fall planting of trees and shrubs can be preferable to planting in the spring” says Jackson. “Cooler days, higher rainfall and warm soil all make for great conditions for the gardener who wants to extend their planting season and get a jump on the season ahead.”
Join Nasami Farm’s plant coordinator Steve Jackson as he talks about the ins-and-outs of late season planting. New England native trees, shrubs and perennials will be covered including planting tips, care for your plants as well as specific considerations to keep in mind as you plant into the Fall. Another benefit of fall planting is taking advantage of end-of-the-season sales at your local nurseries!
Nasami Farm Native Plant Trust, New England’s largest native plant nursery and wild plant research center, is located in Whately, Massachusetts. Greening Greenfield’s Planting for Pollinators! campaign is dedicated to education and the restoration of healthy habitats for pollinators and people, biodiversity and beauty. Jackson’s presentation will be followed by refreshments. Greening Greenfield’s next talk will be “Fall Gardening for Pollinators, Helping Bees & Butterflies Survive Winter,” by Larri Cochran, on Wed, October 2, 2019.
