Friends of Reusable Bags/GG Bag-making workshop at Source-to-Sea clean up, 09/27/2025

Saturday, in addition to being a glorious, trashful day with lovely weather, was also a successful day for Greening Greenfield’s Friends of Reusable Bags (FoRB). Once again Greening Greenfield’s Friends of Reusable Bags enjoyed the morning showing young and old how to create versatile  reusable bags. . . in the midst of all the gathering and sorting activity of CRC’s Source to Sea clean-up.  This activity has remained a popular addition to this annual weekend for cleaning up the Connecticut River.  We drew crowds of people of all ages again this year.

We can report that we had 54 people signed in, and at least 85 bags made, 28 or which were donated for us to pass on.  In general, most go to Fosters, where they disappear almost immediately.  This year and last we also donated about a dozen each time to COC (Communities of Care) for their semi-annual goods drive for folks who are homeless – they requested reusable bags specifically –  and a few get filled with apples and such when I do gleaning projects for food distribution.

Our future bag-making prospects are very hopeful with Sara and Gwendolyn from GCC are interested in running a bag workshop in the spring either at GCC or possibly at 170 Main Street, and Leanda’s Girl Scouts had a great time and it sounds like they, too, might want to borrow the equipment some time for a workshop of their own.
